A Citizenship Attorney Who’s Here for Los Angeles Immigrants

A qualified citizenship attorney is increasingly essential for individuals who are committed to acquiring U.S. citizenship. Our team at the Law Offices of Henry A. Posada works on behalf of our clients who are ready to apply for naturalization to ensure that all the necessary criteria are met.

There are two primary pathways to U.S. citizenship for immigrants, derivative and acquired naturalization. In any case, adults applying for citizenship (naturalization) generally need to meet all the following conditions:

  • ✓ Must be at least 18 years old.
  • ✓ Must have continuously resided in the United States as a lawful permanent resident for at least five years (three years if married to a U.S. citizen).
  • ✓ Must have been in the United States for at least 30 months immediately before applying for citizenship (18 months if married to a U.S. citizen).
  • ✓ Must be able to demonstrate good moral character during a five-year period of residence (three years if married to a U.S. citizen).
  • ✓ With exceptions for the physically or mentally impaired, the applicant must be able to understand, speak, write, and read in English in addition to passing a U.S. history and civics test.

As mentioned above, these requirements may not extend to the children of applicants who may garner citizenship through their parents’ citizenship.
